Capomo, AKA Maya nut, Breadnut or Ramon nut is a relative of the fig family, it is nutritionally comparable to amaranth, quinoa and soybean.  It is rich in fiber, protein, vitamins A, E, C and B, and minerals, including calcium, potassium, folate, iron and zinc.  Capomo was a favored food amongst indigenous groups of Mesoamerica and is found throughout Central America and Mexico

It was an opportunity to thank all of the amazing people who choose to contribute to and share this dream that we had for the community… and to do so when the challenges of a crazy dilapidated building seemed mostly overwhelming.

We were joined by our close friends and contributors as well as people that we had just met.

It was a wonderful moment and we are truly grateful to this community for the choice that they have made in supporting us.

Gina Salá, global vocalist from the US,  offers cross cultural songs and techniques from east and west that are healing,  empowering and fun.  This workshop will include elements of cross-cultural singing, Nada Yoga (East Indian sound yoga), improvisation, mantra,  breath, tone, tuning and resonance. Gina Salá is a vocalist, teacher, and composer who performs and leads workshops on the power of sound and voice internationally and is co-director of Sound Healers of Washington.  Her repertoire spans 23 languages, she’s been lead singer for Cirque du Soleil’s “O” and she has performed at diverse venues including the United Nations and the U.S. Pentagon.  With joyful awe at the power of sound and voice, she has learned and shared songs and sound healing techniques in stages, schools, living rooms and huts throughout much of the world.

and yet, yesterday two days after the amazing opening, I woke up with a ball in the pit of my stomach and spent most of the day in that sort of exhausted near breakdown state that you get when you’ve given too much and it catches up to you.

everything catches up to you.

like everyone everywhere, its the money stuff that is stressful.  we didn’t come into the amazing place that we were on Sunday without accumulating some debt.  things that you can’t stop when you’re already two steps away, things like the plumbing requiring a hydraulic pump 17 hours before opening, or the floor that must be sealed if we plan for it to last a few years, or the rain gutters for the crazy last minute rains, or the shelves, or…

yesterday i wanted to crawl in a hole.

and then, jill dropped by the pictures from the event and i sat down to look at them.  and i cried. and its okay.  somewhere in that moment i realized that maybe my job in some way is to be the person who takes the risk and feels the pain.  i’ve certainly lived long enough to know that hard times will pass, and if it it all ends up to be what i dream it to be…
